Russian Language Schools to Be Established in Uzbekistan

Saint Petersburg will assist in opening special classrooms for teaching the Russian language in Uzbekistan, reported Zamin.uz.

This initiative was discussed on September 9 during the official visit of a Saint Petersburg delegation led by Governor Alexander Beglov. As part of the visit, Beglov met with Metropolitan Vikenty of Tashkent and Uzbekistan to discuss bilateral humanitarian cooperation.

According to Beglov, the history of the Tashkent Eparchy is closely tied to Saint Petersburg. The first head of the eparchy, Sofoniy, served in this very city. Beglov also highlighted the importance of dialogue between Orthodox clergy and Islamic scholars.

The parties agreed on Peterburg’s support in establishing classrooms for teaching Russian in Uzbekistan. The city also expressed readiness to provide educational materials, train teachers, and implement joint educational projects.

Additionally, summer camps will be organized to teach the basics of Orthodox culture, involving participants from cities in both Peterburg and Uzbekistan. The project aims to strengthen cultural dialogue between the two nations.

During the visit, Governor Beglov attended the inauguration of the “Leningrad Monument” and signed an updated cooperation plan with Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzoqov until 2028.

It is worth noting that following President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Uzbekistan on May 26–27, both countries confirmed their commitment to enhancing academic exchange in the field of Russian language education.
