After the President's words, the hokim moved into a container house

In the Norin district of Namangan region, an unexpected decision was made following criticism from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The district hokim, Jurabek Nurmatov, in order to be closer to the residents and solve problems on the spot, moved into a container house installed in the Shurarik (new name — Yangi Namangan) mahalla. This was reported by the regional hokimiyat’s press service.

According to reports, the President’s visit to Namangan on September 16–17 marked the beginning of a new era in the life of the entire region. Under the leadership of regional hokim Shavkatjon Abdurazzoqov, with the participation of deputies and responsible officials, large-scale works have begun to completely renew the appearance of the mahalla, develop infrastructure, and improve the population’s standard of living.

At initial meetings with elders and community representatives, plans were discussed to create an industrial zone on the site of abandoned buildings, open new jobs, and thoroughly modernize roads and infrastructure. In addition, the process of preparing a master plan for the sustainable development of Yangi Namangan and 6 surrounding mahallas was launched. To coordinate these works systematically, a special regional headquarters was established.

President Mirziyoyev’s unannounced visit revealed the actual state of the mahalla. More than 5,000 people live here, including 62 low-income families, 118 unemployed individuals, and 157 citizens working abroad as labor migrants. The head of state inspected the dusty streets and empty buildings, listened to the opinions of residents, and gave strict instructions to officials. He even stressed: “If necessary, the district hokim should stay overnight here.”

Following this, hokim Nurmatov’s move into the container house is perceived as a practical demonstration of his attitude toward work. Experts emphasize that this decision will accelerate reforms in the mahalla, allow issues to be resolved on the ground, and ensure constant communication with the community.

The hokim’s life in the container house carries symbolic significance and is regarded as a real embodiment of the President’s demand that “officials must be closer to the people.”
