South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said that even if North Korea does not completely eliminate its nuclear weapons, freezing their production would be a significant step.
According to the president, North Korea produces dozens of new nuclear weapons every year. Therefore, a temporary freeze is also seen as a useful and realistic solution for security.
Since taking office in June, Lee Jae Myung has sought to reduce tensions with the neighboring state. He recalled that the previous president’s policy had increased conflicts in the region.
The South Korean leader also said he would continue close cooperation with the US and Japan. However, he expressed concern about the growing closeness between China, Russia and North Korea.
