New bus lanes to be built on 10 streets in Tashkent

The Tashkent city administration presented updated plans for building dedicated bus lanes to improve the efficiency of public transport. Under the new program, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system will be introduced on 10 streets. The city’s press service reported the update.

According to the data, the total length of the new lanes will be 51 kilometers (down from 57.5 km in the previous version). The updated plan replaces the KHAI–Parkent streets with Alisher Navoi and Beruniy streets.

The main routes where the BRT system will be implemented are:
Shota Rustaveli (5.1 km), Shahrisabz (3.2 km), Amir Temur (5.7 km), Yangi Sergeli (5.3 km), Maxtumquli (1.3 km), Mirzo Ulugbek – Feruza – Yuzrabot (10.4 km), Lutfiy and Muqimiy (5.9 km), Nurafshon (3.7 km), Qoratosh – Kokcha Darvoza (4 km), and Alisher Navoi – Beruniy (6 km).

The administration noted that $126 million will be allocated for the construction of this infrastructure (compared to $110 million in the earlier project).

Experts emphasize that the new lanes will significantly improve the speed and reliability of public transport in the capital. The system is expected to reduce traffic congestion and minimize bus delays.

The BRT project will include dedicated lanes for buses, an “intelligent” traffic light coordination system, and the construction of modern bus stops. This will ensure comfort, time efficiency, and safety for passengers.

Additionally, the number of passengers is expected to increase while the use of private vehicles will decline. Environmental experts believe the project will not only save time but also noticeably reduce air pollution.

The city administration stated that the project will be implemented in stages: first by updating engineering communications and then by improving road markings, ensuring pedestrian safety, and building new stations.

Local specialists say the introduction of the system will mark a new phase in Tashkent’s transport development. Once fully operational, the public transport speed could nearly double.
