From 2026, newly built houses will be given only Uzbek names

Starting from 2026, newly built residential complexes and other facilities in Uzbekistan will be given names only in the Uzbek language. This was stated in a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers adopted on October 22.

According to the resolution, from next year, the name of every new construction site, as well as building passports, signs, advertisements, and announcements, must be written in the state language. All documents are required to strictly comply with the norms of the Uzbek language.

In addition, all technical, authorial, and supervisory documents related to construction must be submitted to the relevant territorial inspections in accordance with state language requirements.

The document also instructs that the “E-XSUD” construction permit system and the environmental permit systems be integrated with the “Integrated Cadastral and Registration Information System” and the “Transparent Construction” platform.

This resolution will come into force three months after its official publication — that is, at the beginning of 2026.

Experts consider this decision an important step toward strengthening the status of the state language and improving language culture in urban areas.
