Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s official visit to Uzbekistan has concluded and he expressed his deep satisfaction with the results of the trip. After visiting the Center for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent, Vučić called the negotiations “a solid foundation for future bilateral relations” in a conversation with journalists.
During the visit, a joint declaration on cooperation as well as intergovernmental and inter-agency documents were signed. These agreements cover a wide range of areas, from mutual encouragement and protection of investments, to labor migration, education, tourism, and high technology.
In particular, special attention was given to creating a legal basis for enabling Uzbek citizens to work legally in Serbia. This will open new opportunities for labor migrants and guarantee the protection of their rights.
During negotiations with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, concrete steps were discussed to increase trade volume and implement joint projects. The parties noted the great potential in areas such as engineering, the agro-industrial sector, pharmaceuticals, and the IT sector.
It was also emphasized that the development of “Central Asia - Balkans” transport corridors is of great importance. This direction could become a new driving force for economic growth for both regions.
The Serbian delegation’s visit was not limited to the capital. Aleksandar Vučić also visited Samarkand, where he participated as an honorary guest in the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference.
The most significant point of political dialogue was Aleksandar Vučić’s expression of his intention to welcome Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Belgrade on an official visit. This visit is expected to take place after the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission, which is scheduled in Tashkent in 2026, and will serve to further strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries.
