According to a 2018 decision, a park was supposed to be created on the site of the former Investigation Prison No.1 in Yunusobod district, Tashkent. This area was planned as a place for public recreation and cultural activities.
However, in 2020, former mayor Jahongir Ortiqxo‘jayev gave about 3 hectares of land to an entrepreneur as compensation for the “Yunusobod Business City” project. The entrepreneur plans to build a hotel or a multi-storey building there.
But according to Tashkent’s master plan, building multi-storey buildings or hotels in this area is prohibited. Therefore, the entrepreneur cannot obtain construction permission, and the project is not being implemented.
Experts and local residents emphasize the importance of preserving this land as a park and note that this decision shows a conflict between the city’s master plan and private property issues.
