The Decree signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on taking urgent measures to improve the ecological situation in Tashkent is a strategic document that will significantly affect all spheres of life in the capital. These measures are aimed not only at cleaning Tashkent but also at turning it into a "smart" and "green" city.
1. Economic and Health Protection Relief
The fastest and most noticeable impact of the decree for the population is the exemption of household air purifiers from customs duties. The price of this equipment, whose import has increased 9 times due to air pollution, will sharply decrease due to the abolition of the 20 percent duty. This will reduce the population's expenses toward health protection and increase the opportunity for the general public to breathe clean air.
2. Modern Urbanism and Technologies
The second important direction in improving the urban environment is the establishment of "Green Corridors" and the introduction of artificial intelligence into the transport system. Large-scale greening efforts during the spring and autumn seasons of 2026 will improve the city's microclimate and reduce dust. The installation of "smart" traffic lights at 700 intersections will manage traffic flow, reducing congestion and the spread of harmful substances emitted from vehicle exhausts into the atmosphere.
3. Scientific and Systemic Approach
Finally, the most strategic part of the decree is the establishment of a specialized laboratory under the Ecology Committee for in-depth study of PM 2.5 particles. This measure ensures a scientifically based approach to the ecological problems in the capital. It allows moving away from only superficially solving problems to identifying their sources and strengthening systemic prophylactic measures. At the same time, the responsibility of the healthcare system is strengthened, and respiratory diseases are prevented.
These complex measures promise the residents of Tashkent clean air, a healthy environment, and comfortable living conditions based on modern technologies.
