Uzbekistan is expected to start producing its first domestic high-speed trains in the coming years. This was announced by the First Deputy Chairman of JSC "Uzbekistan Railways" Hikmatulla Rakhmatov.
On November 27, within the framework of a major forum on the Trans-Caspian Corridor and Interconnectivity held in Tashkent, Rakhmatov told journalists about strategic plans in the railway network.
Rakhmatov emphasized that new high-speed trains manufactured in Uzbekistan will be significantly cheaper than those imported. There are several reasons for this: the high qualifications of local specialists, the ability to master technologies, and the fact that tax revenues remain within the country.
According to him, high-speed trains at the level that Uzbekistan intends to produce are currently available only in Russia in the CIS, but they are also not at the level of modern requirements. Thanks to domestic production, the cost of trains will be at least 10-15 percent cheaper than foreign purchases.
At the same time, jobs will be created at enterprises, and foreign exchange earnings will increase due to exports. For now, the production of 10 high-speed trains is planned as an annual capacity.
