The President noted the growing urgency of environmental issues in Tashkent

Officials must constantly work to bring Tashkent into the ranks of the 300 cities with a stable ecology. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this at a meeting in Tashkent dedicated to summarizing the work done and setting new goals for the coming year.

It was noted that the issue of ecology is becoming increasingly relevant in Tashkent, as in other major cities of the world.

In the "Global Cities Index" ranking of the Oxford economics publication, Tashkent ranks 471st among 1,000 cities in the world.

Officials were instructed to work tirelessly to bring the capital into the list of 300 cities with a stable environment in this rating," the presidential press service said.

For this purpose, it was instructed to prepare and begin work on projects for the construction of artificial lakes and reservoirs in 4 parts of the capital within three months. By June 1, 3 shaded walkways with a length of 5 kilometers will be commissioned in each district. A separate program will be launched to create one green park for every 10 mahallas.

In 2026, 18.5 kilometers of canal banks will be reinforced in the city. It was noted that it is necessary to start considering the creation of green areas and recreational areas in these areas now.

Also, an additional 800 hectares will be opened by strengthening the 16 km section of the Chirchik River, which flows through Bektemir, Sergeli, and Yangikhayot. It was indicated that a "green belt" should be created on 200 hectares of these lands, and internal roads, parks, pedestrian and bicycle paths should be built on 250 hectares.

A master plan for the city's drainage system has been developed, and it has been announced that construction work will begin next year.

"Water should circulate in the irrigation ditches on all streets of the city," the head of state said.

Within the framework of the program, it is planned to build 150 kilometers of closed drainage systems, repair 197 kilometers of canals and collectors, build 63 kilometers of new canals, and create a cool microclimate in the city.

17 facilities for collecting rainwater will be built. This water is used for irrigating trees and green spaces.

All communal organizations and emergency services of the capital have been instructed to switch to working around the clock, to work on the prevention and prompt elimination of emergencies, and to strengthen work to ensure public safety.
