During his official visit to Japan, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the mayor of Nara, Gen Nakagawa. The meeting discussed the development of interregional relations and cultural-humanitarian cooperation.
The establishment of sister city relations between Samarkand and Nara was highly appreciated. Historically, Samarkand was the center of the Great Silk Road for many centuries, while Nara served as its eastern gateway. These cities played an important role in developing international trade and knowledge exchange.
Gen Nakagawa announced that one of the new parks in Nara will be named Samarkand as a symbol of friendship between the two countries and peoples. It was also emphasized that it is necessary to actively develop trade, economic, and investment relations, as well as cooperation in tourism, agriculture, textile, transport, and urban planning.
During President Mirziyoyev’s visit to Japan, meetings were held in Tokyo with Emperor Naruhito, parliamentary representatives, and the Minister of Economy. Strategic partnership strengthening and joint project implementation were also discussed.
