A new logistics center will be built on the Uzbekistan–Tajikistan border

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), Tajikistan’s Ministry of Transport, and the PPP Project Implementation Center have begun developing a feasibility study (FS) for building a logistics center on the Uzbekistan–Tajikistan border. This was reported by podrobno.uz reports .
The new facility is planned to be built on the basis of the “Fotekhobod” — “Oybek” border crossing point. Work on the project started after a trilateral technical assistance agreement was signed in Dushanbe.
According to the document, the EDB’s Technical Assistance Fund will finance the costs of preparing the FS and assessing the project’s effectiveness. Tajik Deputy Transport Minister Shoista Saidmurodzoda emphasized that this initiative is the first project in the country’s transport sector to be implemented through a public-private partnership (PPP) mechanism.
EDB Director in Tajikistan Vladimir Yakunin noted that developing modern logistics infrastructure is one of the priority areas of Tajikistan’s State Program for Logistics Development for 2023–2028. The program предусматривает modernization of infrastructure, preparation of high-quality project documentation, and creating conditions to attract investment into the transport and logistics sector.
In Yakunin’s view, preparing an initial FS for the “Fotekhobod” project will be an important step toward launching a major initiative that could significantly increase the efficiency of cross-border trade. He said that, based on the FS results, the EDB is also ready to consider financing the construction of the new logistics center.
It is reported that this project under the EDB Technical Assistance Fund will help improve the quality of preparing infrastructure initiatives, strengthen specialists’ qualifications, and lay the groundwork for major investment projects. As a result, it is expected to develop Tajikistan’s transport and logistics system, increase the sector’s investment attractiveness, and boost trade flows in the region.
It was also recalled that earlier plans were discussed to establish the “Uzbekistan — Tajikistan” trade and industrial zone in the areas of the “Oybek” and “Fotekhobod” crossing points, covering production capacities, logistics centers, and the necessary infrastructure.
