Today, January 24, the opening ceremony of the regional center of the World Aquatics Federation was held in the Olympic village in Tashkent. The event was organized as part of the executive committee meeting of the federation bureau and a visit by a delegation led by World Aquatics President and Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, Husayn Al-Musallam. The ceremony was attended by World Aquatics executive committee member Shahnoza Mirziyoyeva, Uzbekistan's Minister of Sports Adham Ikramov, President of the Uzbekistan Swimming Federation Qudratilla Rafikov, as well as Paolo Zampolli, the U.S. President's special representative for global cooperation, and Majid Rashid, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee.
The new water complex where the center is located includes an Olympic-standard swimming pool (50×25 m) and a diving pool (20×25 m), training halls, and a modern medical-rehabilitation area. Distinguished guests praised the infrastructure, noting that the complex is ready to host world championship-level competitions.
This regional center is expected to create new opportunities for the development of aquatic sports in Uzbekistan. It has already been confirmed that one of the stages of the World Cup in swimming will be held in Tashkent in October 2026 as part of the 'Silk Road Tour'.
The center will serve as a professional base for swimmers from the entire region, in addition to preparing local athletes. Training programs for international-level referees and coaches will also be established.
The complex is not limited to professional sports: programs for children and teenagers, as well as initiatives aimed at popularizing swimming among the population, will also be implemented here. Husayn Al-Musallam emphasized that the capabilities of the Olympic village left a 'great impression' on the international commission, and proposals for organizing prestigious continental competitions here in the coming years are being considered.
