The Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee issued a warning regarding the newly spreading virus
Earlier, reports emerged about the spread of the extremely dangerous Nipah virus near the Indian city of Calcutta, which has no vaccine or specific cure. In this regard, the Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee of Uzbekistan provided official information and clarification on this virus.
The committee stated that the Nipah virus is a zoonotic infectious disease and can be transmitted from animals to humans. In particular, bats have been identified as the main sources of the virus. There is also a possibility of transmission through contaminated food products or from person to person.
Specialists emphasize that the Nipah virus is a severe disease that can lead to serious complications related to brain inflammation (encephalitis) or respiratory tract infections. In some cases, it is noted that the disease can manifest itself in a very severe form.
In recent years, epidemics related to this virus have been observed mainly in India. At the same time, cases of human infection have also been recorded in the countries of Southeast Asia.
The committee officially stated that the Nipah virus has not yet been detected in Uzbekistan, and the epidemiological situation in the country is stable.
At the same time, Uzbeks planning to travel to India or regions where this virus has spread are advised to strictly observe precautionary measures. In particular, the importance of observing personal hygiene rules, frequently washing hands with soap, using antiseptics, thoroughly washing fruits and vegetables before consumption, and not drinking untested water was emphasized. Particularly, it was emphasized not to eat fruits bitten or scratched by bats, and damaged ones.
It was noted that in case of a high fever, severe headache, general weakness, or other suspicious symptoms, it is necessary to immediately contact a medical institution.
