Uzbekistan will take labor migration with Spain to a new level

As reported by the IA "Dunyo," a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan with the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Spain, Maria Asunción Sanchez Ruiz. The main focus at the meeting was on expanding cooperation on consular issues, simplifying visa procedures, and labor migration.

According to the consular-legal direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Uzbekistan continues systematic work to diversify labor migration flows, that is, to expand the geography of work for citizens. In this regard, Spain is noted as one of the promising destinations.

During the negotiations, the parties exchanged views on several important issues:

  • topical consular issues;
  • simplification of visa procedures;
  • establishing practical cooperation in the field of labor migration.

The most interesting (and most beneficial for the future) part is the discussion of the idea of signing the intergovernmental agreement "On Mobility and Migration" and the launch of a pilot project to attract labor migrants from Uzbekistan to the agricultural and construction sectors. That is, it's not just about "the conversation happened," but about specific mechanisms.

It was also proposed to consider options for including foreign workers in the organized recruitment system - GECCO - to expand opportunities for the employment of Uzbek citizens in Spain. The parties expressed their readiness to deepen cooperation and coordination between the relevant agencies and positively agreed on further steps.

In short, if this direction is set correctly, in the future, opportunities for Uzbeks to work legally and systematically will expand - a format like "yes, document, contract, clear rule." This format both protects the person and regulates the process.
