President gave instructions to develop pharmaceuticals

A meeting was held on the development of the pharmaceutical industry and increasing the production of medicines in Uzbekistan. At the meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, important tasks were set to take the industry to a new level. In particular, by 2030, it is planned to increase the share of local medicines in the domestic market from the current 30 percent to 70 percent.
To accelerate the pace of attracting investment to the sector, it is planned to allocate 1 billion dollars by 2026. This figure accounts for more than half of the total investment made over the last 9 years. Also, increasing medicine exports to 1 billion dollars and expanding the production of disease prevention drugs were set as priority tasks.
During the meeting, it was announced that negotiations were held with more than 100 medicine manufacturers, 50 importers, and about 300 trade enterprises and investors. The head of state criticized regional governors for not establishing a systematic dialogue with entrepreneurs. Now, it is required to strengthen close cooperation with pharmaceutical companies and quickly resolve the problems of business representatives.
