The meeting of the Trump team with Poroshenko and Tymoshenko is being interpreted as a signal to Zelensky. Against this background, speculation about the possibility of elections in Ukraine is growing. At the same time, new discussions have begun on the European security architecture - is 800 billion enough? In "Geosiyosat" analysts Shukhrat Rasul, Oybek Sirozhov and Abduvali Soyibnazarov shared their thoughts on the topic.
What is the reason for the meeting of representatives of the Trump team with former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko?
Shukhrat Rasul: We know that relations between Trump and Zelensky are cold. The Americans' goal in meeting with Yulia Tymoshenko or Poroshenko is a kind of appeal to Zelensky, and against this background, many experts say that elections may now be held in Ukraine.
However, Poroshenko, no matter how much he opposes Zelensky, said that in the current situation he supports the country's leader, saying that it would be better if elections were not held during the war. At the same time, he said that he did not discuss any action against Zelensky with the United States.
In addition, Valery Zaluzhny, who has his own position among the people, also supported the unity of the country, criticized Trump's policies, and it can be said that he showed the unity of Ukraine to the world.
Isn't it more appropriate for Europe to spend this much money on NATO than on rearmament for $800 billion?
Oybek Sirojov: It is envisaged that this much money will be spent on creating a security umbrella to replace the United States, and besides, such a platform will take at least 10 years.
In any case, the European Union is realizing that proposals are being put forward to allocate funds and strengthen capabilities in security-related issues.
For example, in Germany, the new Chancellor Mears is emphasizing the same thing in his speeches. We see that France is also taking initiatives in this regard.
Abduvali Soyibnazarov: There are disagreements within the European Union, for example, countries such as Hungary and Slovakia may not be able to reach a consensus in decision-making due to their sympathy for Moscow.
A split in the union may occur due to economic factors. Countries with large economic potential, such as France, Germany, Italy, could take such an initiative. But I think that the countries of Central and Eastern Europe rely and trust the United States more than the European Union. From this point of view, they still seem to be in favor of remaining under the security umbrella of the United States.
