Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has responded sharply to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's statements about the country. He criticized Rubio's intervention in the territorial dispute between Venezuela and Guyana, calling him "idiot".
Conflict between Venezuela and the US
Maduro said that Caracas did not intend to pay attention to Rubio's threats, because Venezuela is "the homeland of freedom fighters" and the birthplace of Simón Bolívar.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had previously warned Venezuela against launching military action against Guyana, saying that such a step would be a "very big mistake".
In response, Maduro sharply criticized US policy and noted that Venezuela is moving towards democracy.
Opposition and US financial assistance
In addition, Maduro also exposed US financing of the opposition in Venezuela. According to him, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) has allocated billions of dollars to the exiled leaders of the Venezuelan opposition.
🔹 Juan Guaido is an opposition figure who declared himself president of Venezuela in the past and later fled to Colombia.
🔹 Maduro was interested in the fact that American organizations have allocated more than $ 5 billion to Guaido.
Relations between Venezuela and the US have been increasingly tense in recent years. Caracas is trying to maintain economic and political independence despite Washington's sanctions.
