Putin: “I always think about who will become the next president of Russia”

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that he constantly thinks about the issue of succession, but the final decision should be in the hands of Russian citizens. He shared this in the documentary film "Russia. Kremlin. Putin. 25 Years".

“I always think about a successor. There are different views on this — using administrative resources and technologies that cannot be predicted in advance. But the final choice must be in the hands of the people, that is, Russian voters,” said Putin.

The president emphasized that he constantly observes and analyzes the abilities and potential of each candidate. According to him, it is difficult for someone who has not gained the people's trust to fulfill important responsibilities.

“For the stability, development, and security of the state, the most essential factor is the citizens' trust in their leaders. To earn this trust, one must work honestly and effectively, improving people’s standard of living,” he noted.

Putin specifically highlighted that the current poverty rate in the country is the lowest in history.

“Of course, people always look to the future with hope and believe things will get better. And they are right. If the people believe, then trust in the authorities will follow. This is the foundation of societal unity,” he added.

Putin also stated that in order for Russians to truly have a choice, it is preferable to have several candidates. In response to the question, “Do you think about who will govern the country in the future?” he said:

“There should appear either one person who can gain the people’s trust, or several candidates to give people a choice,” said the president.

Putin concluded by thanking Russian citizens for their ongoing support and trust, which he said he always relies on in his work.
