Ukraine may receive additional Patriot systems before NATO summit

Ukraine may receive additional Patriot systems before NATO summit
Ukraine’s Western allies are actively discussing the delivery of additional long-range Patriot air defense systems to Kyiv. This was reported on May 5 by Reuters, citing reliable sources.

According to the report, an agreement may be reached before the NATO Summit scheduled for June 24–25 in The Hague, Netherlands. Military assistance to Ukraine will be one of the main topics of the summit.

In April, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told CBS News that Ukraine was ready to purchase 10 U.S.-made Patriot systems, calling them strategically important for national security and vital to protect Ukrainian airspace from enemy attacks.

Zelensky later clarified that he also discussed this issue with U.S. President Donald Trump during Pope Francis’ funeral ceremony in the Vatican.

Reuters sources indicate that the U.S. and Greece were initially considered as potential suppliers, but Athens has since opted out of the initiative.

“Currently, the question of supplying Patriot systems from Greece to Ukraine is not on the agenda,” said a senior Greek official.

Ukrainian forces are in great need of these systems. Patriot batteries can effectively protect major cities and critical infrastructure from long-range missiles and drones.

NATO countries reportedly maintain a unified stance on continued military support for Ukraine. A spokesperson from Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that these systems would significantly strengthen the country’s air defense.

Experts believe that such deliveries could provide Kyiv with a notable military advantage. Finalizing this issue before the summit would be a key step toward expanding defense cooperation.

The Ukrainian government is continuing active negotiations with allies, which may soon result in a strengthened national defense. NATO members reaffirm their commitment to supporting Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.
