For the German couple, Rafal and Monika Kleinschmidt, cats are not just pets but genuine family members. For this reason, they have been searching for their cat named Nero for almost a year. During this process, they have spent over $22,000, as reported by The Times.
Nero suddenly disappeared in July 2024, just before the Kleinschmidts were due to leave for vacation. According to Rafal, they were traveling to Chiemgau for Monika's rehabilitation program and stopped at a hotel in Erlangen. It was there that Nero unexpectedly jumped out of his transport cage and ran away, and has not been seen since.

For the couple, losing their cat was not just about losing a pet, but more like the painful loss of a close friend. Therefore, every weekend they drive 450 kilometers to continue their search for Nero. Posters with Nero's picture have been put up around the city, they've tried attracting him with his favorite tuna, and even installed special cameras.
The Kleinschmidts have invested not only time but also significant financial resources into this search. Expenses for gasoline, hotel stays, tuna, cameras, and printed materials have amounted to around $22,000 in total. However, nothing stops them. "He's not just a cat for me, he's a family member. You never abandon your friends. I still believe he is alive," says Rafal.

Fortunately, Nero is microchipped. If someone finds the cat, the owners can be notified through the chip. It is this hope that the Kleinschmidts cling to.
This story illustrates not only how deep love for cats can be, but also how loyalty and family devotion can drive people to great sacrifices. Perhaps it is precisely because of such love that Nero will one day return home… Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
