In southern Gaza violent clashes escalated yesterday with a devastating incident — 7 Israeli soldiers were killed, as reported by Times of Israel referencing the IDF.
They were part of the 605th Combat Engineering Battalion traveling in a Puma armored engineering vehicle. A bomb attached under the vehicle detonated and the vehicle caught fire, killing all on board. Efforts to extinguish the fire failed, and charred bodies were removed afterwards.
The fallen include a lieutenant and six sergeants. Additionally, two soldiers were wounded by an RPG strike nearby — one seriously, another lightly.
These deaths bring the IDF’s Gaza casualties to 440 since the start of the current ground operations.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Katz wrote on X: “Our soldiers fought heroically to defend Israel and free the hostages and sacrificed their lives.”
President Isaac Herzog expressed deep grief: “The situation is extremely difficult. We embrace the bereaved families, wish a speedy recovery to the injured, and pray for resilience for our troops.”
Since the conflict began on October 7, 2023, over 56,000 Palestinians have died, mainly women and children. Israeli strikes have also affected Lebanon, Syria, and Iran, causing civilian casualties.
