Confirmed: Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff killed
The life of one of Iran’s key military figures, General Ali Shodmani, ended in a horrific manner as a result of Israeli airstrikes. According to Mehr agency, Shodmani, commander of the central “Khatam-al-Anbiya” headquarters, died last week from serious bodily injuries. Israeli officials announced his death on June 17, but Iran itself only now officially confirmed it.

Ali Shodmani held considerable influence not only in the army but also within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. During his career, he served as Iran’s Chief of Staff, commander and deputy of the central “Khatam-al-Anbiya” headquarters, and also headed the Rapid Operations department. On June 13, after the death of his predecessor Gholam Ali Rashid, the responsibility for leading the headquarters fell on Shodmani.

The “Khatam-al-Anbiya” central headquarters is one of Iran’s most important military command bodies, coordinating the country's combat operations and setting strategic plans. This organization plays a decisive role in national security, defense, and strike planning.

Shodmani was known as a person close to Iran's supreme leadership and head of state. His killing in the Israeli strike constitutes a major loss for military circles in Iran.

Amid escalating tension and military confrontation between Iran and Israel, the loss of high-ranking military commanders may seriously impact regional security. The activity and life of leaders like Ali Shodmani are of critical importance not only for Iran but for the entire region. Time will tell how the tragic death of a capable commander affects the geopolitical balance in the near future.
