Medvedev: The European Union is now no less dangerous for Russia than NATO

In Russia–West relations, a new political "coldness": according to Medvedev, the European Union has now become one of the main threats for the Russian Federation. Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev wrote about this openly in his Telegram channel.

European Union — a new global political bloc?

According to Medvedev, the European Union, once created on the basis of the European Coal and Steel Community, has now deviated from its original essence. He describes this organization as a politicized, globalist, and Russophobic bloc: "Now their main ideology is Russophobia. European politicians, instead of economic cooperation and peace, more and more often try to carry out bold actions against Russia."

According to Medvedev, the European Union is masking the internal problems of individual states as a “Russian threat”. “Gradually, but confidently, Europe is turning into a self-sufficient military bloc,” the politician stressed.

Kyiv and Brussels: is rapprochement a threat for Russia?

According to the Russian official, the European Union has a separate goal — to arm Kyiv so much that it becomes invulnerable for Russia. This makes Brussels an obvious and real enemy for Moscow. Medvedev noted: “Today Brussels is Russia’s real enemy. In such a perverted form, the European Union is no less dangerous for us than NATO,” he stated clearly.

He also suggested reviewing the motto of Russian politics: “Join anywhere, but not NATO.” “The European Union has also become a direct threat,” said Medvedev.

Ukraine’s accession to the European Union: another test for Russia

Medvedev considers the possible accession of Ukraine to the European Union as dangerous for Russia. In his opinion, to limit this threat, either the European Union should not accept Kyiv, or not accept any new member at all.
