March for Gaza in Sydney: Tens of thousands join protest
In the Australian city of Sydney, thousands of people took part on Sunday in the “March for Humanity” over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, aiming to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The protest was approved by Australia’s Supreme Court just one day prior, which many considered a “historic decision”. Despite initial safety concerns from the police, the court upheld the right to protest and allowed the bridge to be closed to traffic.

The march included politicians and public figures, including WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, federal MP Ed Husic, and former New South Wales Premier Bob Carr. Many participants carried signs reading “Save Gaza” and “Ceasefire now”.

The Palestine Action Group, which organized the march, said it was held in response to the “tragic situation” in Gaza. Although police initially rejected the request, the Supreme Court later declared the protest lawful.

In Australia, pressure is mounting to recognize the State of Palestine. This is being driven by the plans of France, Canada, and the UK to conditionally recognize Palestine at the upcoming UN General Assembly.
