Britain Recognises Palestine
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to announce on Sunday that Britain will recognise the state of Palestine. In July he said that if Israel did not stop fire in Gaza and take steps towards peace, this decision would be made.

The Israeli government and families of hostages criticised the decision. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it “a reward for terrorism.” US President Donald Trump also opposed the move.

The British government explained this step by the difficult situation in Gaza and the illegal settlements in the West Bank.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the decision. Currently, most UN member states recognise Palestine, and recently Portugal, France, Canada and Australia also announced they would follow this path.
