Major changes are expected in the activities of the Canadian Post. According to the country's Minister of Public Works and Procurement, Joel Lightbaund, door-to-door mail delivery will be almost completely halted.
The Minister noted that the postal service is facing an "existential crisis" financially. It currently operates at a loss of approximately 10 million Canadian dollars (7.2 million US dollars) per day. Constant state support cannot solve the problem.
As a result of the reforms, the delivery time of mail can be extended from an average of 3-4 days to 3-7 days. Additionally, some branches will be closed, and approximately four million Canadians will be left without the opportunity to deliver letters home.
In this regard, the Commission for Inspection of the Activities of Enterprises proposed installing an additional mailbox in public places for residents whose homes are not supplied with mail. These changes are expected to have a significant impact on the daily lives of the population.
