Former Japanese Interior Minister Sanae Takaiti won the election for leadership of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Kyodo news agency reported this.
It is reported that the mandate of the new leader of the LDPR will last until 2027. However, winning the LDP chairmanship election does not automatically guarantee Takaiti's appointment as Prime Minister of Japan, as the party has lost a majority of seats in parliament. At the same time, the LDP remains the most influential political force in parliament in coalition with the Komeyto party, Kyodo reports.
According to the publication, Takaiti may take office in October and become the first female prime minister in Japanese history. This situation is an important historical stage in the political life of the country and testifies to the opening of new directions in women's policy.
