US President Donald Trump has stated that diplomatic negotiations aimed at stopping the Russia-Ukraine conflict are proving to be more complicated than expected. According to BBC News, he expressed these thoughts during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. According to Trump, direct conversations with Vladimir Putin turned out to be "more difficult than expected."
"This is an incredibly complex process. "At first, I thought this was one of the easiest solutions," he said.
At the same time, Trump emphasized that the situation around Gaza is "very close" to a peace agreement. He presented his "peace plan" for the conflict between Israel and Hamas on September 29th.
Putting an end to the Russia-Ukraine war is one of the main promises in Trump's election program. The US and Russian delegations have held several meetings, and the presidents have personally spoken in Alaska. However, so far, an agreement has not even been reached on a temporary ceasefire.
According to observers, the prolongation of the process depends on several factors - a wide range of points of agreement, such as restoring trust between the parties, guarantee mechanisms, security requirements, and sanctions. Nevertheless, both Washington and Moscow stated that diplomatic doors are being left open - meaning negotiations will continue.
