China accuses the US of “hypocrisy”

China’s government sharply responded to US President Donald Trump’s statement about imposing a 100% tariff on Chinese goods. Beijing called this move “typical US hypocrisy.”

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said that if Trump follows through with his threat, the country will take countermeasures. Officials stated, “We do not want a trade war, but we are not afraid of it.”

Trump criticized China for restricting the export of rare earth metals and said he might cancel his planned meeting with President Xi Jinping.

Following his remarks, US stock markets fell. China, in turn, accused the US of “applying pressure under the pretext of national security.”
