A very unusual incident occurred in the Indian state of Bihar. Mohan Lal, a 74-year-old former soldier, organized his own funeral while still alive. According to him, through this he wanted to know how people would react to his death and who would truly grieve. This was reported by Gulf News.
The incident occurred in the village of Konchi, Gaya District. Mohan Lal laid himself in a coffin as the deceased, and a "funeral" was held along the village streets with funeral songs. Even all the actions characteristic of real funeral rites were performed.
According to reports, Lal personally planned this "show." He wanted all the villagers to come and participate. While people were weeping and mourning, he suddenly stood up from the coffin, astonishing the crowd. After this, a symbolic statuette was lit, and a large feast was organized.
To the question of why he did this, Mohan Lal responded:
"When a person dies, they carry their coffin. And I wanted to see this while I was alive - to feel the respect and love of my people."
The villagers respect Lal. The reason is that he had previously built a modern crematorium to alleviate the burning problem during the rainy season. Through these actions, people know him as a conscientious and people-loving person.
According to Indian media, Mohan Lal may have been motivated by a lack of love and attention towards himself. His "burial" caused a great sensation in the village, and many people regarded the event not only as strange but also as a life-thinking event.
Mohan Lal is still living an active life in the village and jokes that he is "once dead, now truly alive."
