According to the Paris Prosecutor's Office, a large-scale theft at the Louvre Museum caused €88 million in damage to France.
Paris prosecutor Lor Becco announced this on BFMTV.
- The Louvre director estimated the damage at 88 million euros. "This is a huge amount, but it cannot be compared with historical damage," he said.
The French Ministry of Culture, in a statement to the Financial Times, stated that the stolen jewelry was not insured. The reason is that insurance policies are not typically used in the Louvre Museum - because it's impossible to accurately assess the true value of works like Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" or "The Sphinx of the Great Familiar." According to a representative of the Ministry, the state acts as an insurer in such cases, provided that the exhibits are stored in safe conditions.
Minister of Culture Rashida Dati officially announced the robbery at the museum on Sunday. It turned out that eight valuable items belonging to the era of Napoleon III - diadems, necklaces, and necklaces - were stolen.
According to the investigation, the thieves may have pre-agreed with the supplier of museum equipment. It is reported that they left the scene on scooters and bicycles after committing the crime.
