In Nigeria, the activities of armed groups and terrorist organizations have intensified in recent years. Among the most active are Boko Haram and the IS-West African Branch (ISWAP). These structures have been carrying out attacks against schools, pedestrians, and rural residents in various regions of the country.
According to the law, abduction in Nigeria carries a severe punishment - even the death penalty. However, even these measures are not fully preventing these events. In the north of the country, kidnapping and extortion are widespread as a common source of criminal income.
