U.S. President Donald Trump advised Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine. According to him, Moscow should think about peace instead of testing new nuclear weapons. Trump made this statement on October 27 during a conversation with journalists aboard the plane.
According to Trump, the United States has a nuclear submarine near Russia’s coast, which is powerful enough to ensure the country’s security. “They know we have the most powerful nuclear submarine in the world. So, we don’t need to fly 8,000 miles,” he said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a day earlier that a nuclear-powered missile had been successfully tested. According to the Kremlin, this weapon can penetrate any defense system. The missile flew 14,000 kilometers.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on Trump’s remarks, said that Russia acts based on its national interests. He noted that the new weapons are necessary to ensure the country’s security and should not negatively affect relations with Washington.
Trump criticized Russia for prolonging the war and reminded that if peace is not achieved, new sanctions could be imposed. “The war that should have ended in one week is now in its fourth year. Putin should test peace, not missiles,” said the U.S. president.
