A crush during a religious ceremony at a temple in Srikakulam, located in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, has tragically ended. According to official data, at least ten people died as a result of the incident, including women and children.
The incident occurred at the height of the ceremony, when the number of people inside the temple sharply increased. According to witnesses, people began moving in both directions simultaneously in the exit corridor, resulting in hundreds of people listening to each other, creating a severe crush.
Rescue services and local authorities reported that several more people were seriously injured at the scene. They were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals. The condition of some of them is serious.
An investigation into the incident has been launched. Local police are trying to find out why the temple administration has not taken measures to control the flow of people.
Experts note that in India, such crowding situations are often repeated during religious ceremonies. The reasons include insufficient infrastructure, weak security systems, and organizational shortcomings in managing human flows.
The governor of Andhra Pradesh promised to provide financial assistance to the families of the deceased after the incident. The government has instructed to strengthen security requirements at all religious events.
