Flights were temporarily suspended due to an unusual incident at Atyrau International Airport in Kazakhstan on November 8th. At the airport, a passenger joked that there was a "bomb" in his hand luggage.
Airport staff immediately strengthened security measures, evacuated passengers, and surrounded the entire area. Emergency services - police, firefighters, and rescuers - arrived at the scene and inspected the cargo.
After the investigation revealed that the threat was false, the airport resumed operations. No one was injured. However, due to the incident, several flights were delayed.
According to the Transport Police press service, a criminal case has been initiated under Article 273 of the Criminal Code (intentional false reporting of a terrorist act).
"Airport activity has returned to normal. There were no casualties or injuries. "Due to the ongoing investigation, other details are not yet disclosed," the police statement said.
