US President Donald Trump announced his intention to share the substantial revenue generated by the country's customs duties with the population. According to him, each American citizen can be paid a "dividend" of at least $2,000. The White House leader announced this on November 9th on his Truth Social media page.
"People who oppose customs duties are fools. Now the USA has become the richest, most influential, and most stable country in the world. We have almost no inflation, and the stock market is growing at a record rate," Trump said.
He noted that the US is currently generating trillions of dollars in revenue through tariffs, and it is planned to use these funds to reduce the country's public debt of 37 trillion dollars. "Our industry is being restored, factories and plants are being rebuilt. Therefore, each citizen - excluding those with high incomes - will receive a payment of at least $2,000," Trump said.
However, according to the German news agency Dpa, although the president has mentioned this idea several times before, a current mechanism or legislative initiative has not yet been developed. Experts assess this statement as a political step aimed at electoral influence.
At the same time, some protests are also being observed within Trump's party. Recently, after Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor of New York and a series of Democratic victories across the country, some Republican activists have suggested that "the president is not paying enough attention to his constituents - the segment suffering from inflation and rental prices."
Although Trump spoke about "almost zero inflation" in his post, according to official data, this figure currently stands at around 3%. At the same time, housing rental prices remain high in New York, Los Angeles, and other major cities.
There are also various concerns in the financial markets. In particular, warnings about the risk of an "investment bubble" have increased in relation to the shares of large companies operating in the field of artificial intelligence. As noted by the Dpa agency, this situation could pose a serious threat to pension funds in the USA, as a large part of the population provides for its future through such shares.
Trump, in his political campaign, emphasizes his commitment to further strengthening the country's economic power and prioritizing the interests of the American working class. According to him, "these payments will be a real reward for ordinary people."
