What theft occurred in the famous museum in Damascus?

A robbery occurred at the Syrian National Museum in central Damascus, according to Singaporean publication Lianhe Zaobao.

On the evening of November 10, unknown individuals entered the museum building and stole statues and valuable monuments from the ancient Roman period. An investigation into the incident is underway.

According to the museum, the thieves broke several glass shelves during the crime. Representatives of the Damascus Internal Security Directorate stated that all measures are being taken to apprehend the perpetrators and return the stolen items.

According to the publication, a total of six ancient statues were stolen from the museum.

The Syrian National Museum, founded in 1936, is one of the largest cultural centers in the Arab world. Closed in 2012 during the Civil War, the museum partially resumed operations in 2018 and fully in January 2025.
