In recent days, social networks and some media outlets have reported that the US visa may be denied due to obesity or a chronic illness. The U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan responded to such claims, declaring them groundless.
According to the embassy's statement, the current health policy of the US State Department does not change the list of Category B diseases. The decision to issue a visa is made based on a systematic assessment of the applicant's general condition, financial capabilities, and health factors.
The official statement also emphasizes that obesity itself cannot be an automatic basis for visa refusal. The purpose of medical examinations is to determine the presence or absence of socially dangerous infectious diseases in the applicant.
The Embassy added that one of the key issues for the US government is ensuring that the person entering the country is not a financial burden on the state and can independently cover their living and health expenses. This, in turn, serves to protect the interests of US taxpayers.
