Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, has attracted the attention of the world with its new metro project. The city's subway has been included in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest unmanned metro network in the world, according to Arab News.
This metro line, launched in December 2024, is 176 kilometers long and includes 6 lines and 85 stations. The system operates without a driver through fully automated central control. The project was implemented to reduce traffic jams in the city and reduce environmental impact.
The trains are equipped with Wi-Fi, high-capacity air conditioners, and information displays. With full capacity, the metro will be able to carry 3.6 million passengers per day. Wagons are divided into the highest category, family, and regular.
China's cities still lead in network length: Shanghai - 831 km, Beijing - more than 800 km, Guangzhou - 653 km. Moscow (460 km), New York (472 km), and London (402 km) are also among the largest subways.
New York is the absolute record holder for the number of stations - about 472 stations. There are 439 stations in Shanghai, 428 in Beijing, and about 335 in Seoul.
