The US will re-check green cards of those arriving from 19 countries

The US administration is starting a process of fundamentally rechecking the "green cards" of foreign citizens from 19 countries. According to the BBC, this decision was made following a murder and shooting by an Afghan citizen near the White House. The incident occurred on November 26, when two National Guard servicemen were wounded, and one of them died in the hospital.

President Donald Trump called the attacker an "animal" and demanded a re-examination of migrants from Afghanistan. Because the man who committed the attack entered the USA in 2021 under a special visa program, but continued to live illegally even after the visa expired.

US Chief of the U.S. Immigration and Citizenship Service, Joseph Edlow, confirmed the directive, stating that every green card holder from countries deemed unsafe will be reviewed.

The list includes Afghanistan, Iran, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, Cuba, Turkmenistan, Venezuela, and a number of other countries - a total of 19.

Edlow emphasized that "ensuring US security is a top priority." Detailed information about how the inspection will be conducted has not yet been provided.

Meanwhile, last week the US announced that all refugees admitted during the Biden administration would also be re-examined.
