A 19-year-old woman from Brazil gave birth to twins, but a DNA analysis revealed an extraordinary case. It was determined that each child has a different father.
The woman initially conducted a DNA test with a man, seeking to confirm paternity for one of her children. The results identified him as the biological father of only one twin. She then tested another man, whose DNA matched the other child, confirming a different father for the second twin.
This rare biological phenomenon is known in science as "heteropaternal superfecundation." It occurs when a woman ovulates and engages in relations with two different men, resulting in different sperm fertilizing two separate eggs. Such cases are estimated to occur in about one in every million twin births.
Currently, both children are being cared for by their mother. The incident has sparked significant discussion not only in the medical field but also in legal circles. Experts are emphasizing the rarity of this phenomenon.
