
The number of casualties on the Indonesian island of Sumatra has increased dramatically due to severe floods and intensified landslides. According to official data, 1,317 people died in the tragedy, and another 588 people are still missing. This was reported by the country's National Disaster Management Agency.
The consequences of the disaster are severe:
-more than three thousand people were injured,
-mudflows disrupted residential buildings, road infrastructure and several engineering structures,
-rescuers face a number of difficulties in reaching the most affected areas.
Experts emphasize that the catastrophic disasters in the region are linked to continuous rains lasting a week. In the last two weeks alone, destructive floods and landslides in South and Southeast Asia have claimed the lives of more than 1,500 people and affected nearly 11 million people.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reported that there were no Uzbeks among the heavy rainfall and floods in these areas.
