On Friday, having completed a military mission in the "foreign operational zone," the North Korean sapper unit returned to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). This was reported by the Korean Central Telegraph Agency.
In Pyongyang, the military personnel were personally met by the country's leader, Kim Jong Un. According to him, the sappers performed their duties in the Kursk region of Russia.
"Our servicemen have done a wonderful job. They turned a difficult area into a safe place in just three months, sometimes for years," Kim Jong Un said.
According to the North Korean leader, the sapper unit operated in Russia for 120 days, and nine of them were killed.
Usually, DPRK officials do not speak clearly about the participation of the North Korean military in Russia's war with Ukraine; this topic is limited to the phrase "operation abroad." The DPRK confirmed its military participation in Russia's war with Ukraine in April of this year.
According to South Korean intelligence, Pyongyang sent about 15,000 troops to Russia, of which about 6,000 were killed.
