A copy of the Statue of Liberty fell due to a strong wind in the municipality of Guayba, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The incident occurred at night local time.
In the videos shared by the G1 portal, you can see the statue swaying along with the pedestal during a storm and then falling to the ground. Experts had previously warned that wind speeds in the area could exceed 25 m/s - the forecast, unfortunately, paid off.
According to the data, the total height of the monument, including the pedestal, was 35 meters. The collapsed part was approximately 24 meters tall. Nevertheless, the most important aspect is that no one was injured as a result of the incident.
After the incident, security measures were strengthened, and the area was completely cordoned off. Currently, local authorities are assessing the situation and are awaiting a decision on the restoration or dismantling of the monument.
