The plan to sell Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's valuable gifts received during her business trip through auction has been canceled. The reason is that the auction house, which was supposed to hold the auction, is under criminal investigation.
Among the items planned for sale was a necklace decorated with precious stones, gifted by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. This gift was presented during Meloni's official visit to Uzbekistan in May 2025.
According to Italian law, the Prime Minister cannot retain as his personal property gifts received from foreign heads of state, the value of which exceeds 300 euros. Therefore, such items are kept by the state and are rarely put up for public auction.
According to the information, it was planned that about 800 thousand euros would be received from the cancelled auction, and most of the funds would be directed to charitable purposes. Now this initiative has been postponed indefinitely.
