Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and U.S. President Donald Trump will meet in Florida on Sunday to discuss a plan to end the war in Ukraine. The meeting is part of U.S.-mediated peace efforts. The sides have agreed on some issues, but important disagreements remain.
Before the meeting, Russia struck Kyiv and other parts of the country with missiles and drones. As a result, electricity and heating were cut in some parts of the capital, and there were casualties and injuries. Zelenskiy called these attacks pressure on the peace talks.
Zelenskiy plans to discuss with Trump the future of the Donbas region, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, and territorial issues. The U.S.-proposed peace plan includes the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from certain areas. Ukraine is trying to soften these demands.
Meanwhile, Europe and Canada continue to support Ukraine. The Canadian Prime Minister condemned Russia's recent attacks and announced additional financial aid to Kyiv. European leaders stressed that a fair and lasting peace must come with strong security guarantees for Ukraine.
