China conducted live-fire drills around Taiwan. The exercises involved armed forces, warships, airplanes, and artillery. The drills aimed to block Taiwan's ports and encircle the island. Taiwan responded by mobilizing soldiers and showing military equipment, demonstrating readiness to repel an attack.
China's military command said the drills were held on the northern and southwest sides of the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan security officials said several military ships and aircraft were operating around the island. Some approached the zone 24 nautical miles from the coast.
The drills began 11 days after the U.S. arms delivery to Taiwan. Taiwan’s coast guard is acting with the military to reduce the impact of the exercises.
Taiwan's armed forces are on high alert and ready for rapid response drills. The government condemned the exercises and stressed its commitment to defend democratic values. Taiwan’s people remind that only they can decide the island’s future.
