Over 100 people spend night in Japanese shrine due to snow
More than 100 people took temporary shelter in a shrine in the Japanese mountains due to heavy snowfall. After roads around Mitsumine Shrine in Saitama prefecture were closed, about 130 people had to spend the night in the halls of the building.

Local authorities said that over 50 car owners stayed in the shrine and no one fell ill. Up to 40 cm of snow is expected in some areas.

In the past three days, some areas received up to 80 cm of snow, and more snow is expected as cold weather continues. Roads near Mitsumine Shrine were closed because of slippery conditions.

Mitsumine Shrine is located 1,110 meters above sea level and serves as a center of worship.
