Boat accident: 25 dead, 14 missing in Nigeria

In Nigeria’s northeastern Yobe State, a boat capsized, killing at least 25 people and leaving 14 others missing. The boat was traveling from Adiyani village to the town of Garbi with 52 passengers on board.
So far, 13 passengers have been rescued alive and 25 bodies recovered. Search and rescue operations are ongoing. Emergency services and local volunteers have arrived at the scene and are conducting search operations.
Jigawa State police said the boat capsized due to leakage. The police spokesperson also said night travel and overloading bans were ignored, and the driver could face charges for negligence if he survives.
Local residents said the passengers were from their village and Yobe town. The boat’s delay caused concern among families. Boat accidents are common in Nigeria because many vessels do not follow safety rules.
